Golden Gems will open disco dive bar Hidden Gem in Midtown

Golden Gems owners Susan Logsdon and Amanda Helman are opening a bar, Hidden Gem, on Locust Street.

Local lifestyle brand Golden Gems is in the midst of an exciting expansion on Locust Street. The block already houses one of its three popular St. Louis locations, and now the enterprising sisters who lead the business are embarking on something fresh this fall: opening a disco-themed dive bar, Hidden Gem. Located mere steps away from their flagship shop, owners Susan Logsdon and Amanda Helman are excited to unveil the bar later this fall.

With Hidden Gem, the sisters are focused on providing a safe and inspiring space for guests to have a drink in a setting that celebrates inclusivity. “The mission of Golden Gems is living unapologetically and taking up space,” Logsdon says. “I think that making the bar is an extension of that.”

The sisters have always envisioned adding a bar to their growing empire, but they never anticipated it happening so quickly. In 2022, a space became available on the same block as their flagship location, and their dreams started taking shape. Demolition work on the 3,000-square-foot space, which had previously housed a gym and an office space, began earlier this year. Customers can a similar vibe to Golden Gems, plus lots of disco balls. “There will be some glam moments, but it will still have that neighborhood bar feel,” Helman says.

As far as drinks are concerned, the sisters look forward to working with future bar staff to develop new twists on classic cocktails and NA beverages, while also showing love for low-key drink options and old favorites. “It'll be approachable,” Helman says. “You'll be able to get a really great cocktail, but you can also get a Stag on draft.” The pair plans to keep the menu as local as possible; guests can expect a variety of St. Louis-based spirits and beer selections. Light bites will also be available.

Logsdon and Helman hope that Hidden Gem will breathe new life into their corner of Locust Street, which currently lacks establishments open through the evening. This came into play when it came to naming the bar, which will be the only establishment of its kind in Golden Gems’ vicinity: “There are a lot of people that haven't been to this section of Midtown,” Logsdon says. “So it is a little ‘hidden gem’ that people can discover.” Hidden Gem will also serve as an additional location for Golden Gems events.
